Leadership

ASJMC leaders are committed volunteers of the association expected to carry out duties as assigned.

President

The President conducts the business of ASJMC at meetings, is chairperson of the Executive Committee and shall speak on behalf of the Association. The term of office shall be one year, unless otherwise provided in the Constitution, beginning at the Association’s Annual Business Meeting, which usually occurs at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication conference.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of the President, President-elect, Vice President and immediate Past President of the Association, President of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), and one representative from each of the size categories. One representative shall be elected to the Executive Committee from small programs, medium programs, and large programs, with each category representing approximately one-third of the membership as audited on a three-year basis. Each program representative shall serve a three-year term, with one program representative being elected each year. No one may serve more than two consecutive terms. The Executive Committee conducts the business of ASJMC.

ASJMC Representatives to Accrediting Council

The committee on program standards, evaluation and accreditation shall consist of elected representatives to the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). According to the bylaws of ACEJMC, representatives to the Council from academic organizations must be from accredited programs. As a result, only accredited ASJMC representatives will be nominated to run for these seats. See ASJMC Bylaws for terms and additional information.

AEJMC/ASJMC Human Resource Committee

A permanent human resources committee to fulfill our commitment to sustain a workplace that thrives on talent, leadership, innovation, collaboration, belonging, and professionalism. Chaired by the AEJMC vice-president, the HR committee will advance AEJMC’s commitment to a fulfilling and engaging employment experience for AEJMC/ASJMC’s Office Staff.
