Jared L. Johnson, PhD, is the director of the School of Media & Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State University. He has led the school’s efforts to bring experiential learning more prominently into the curriculum. He has pushed for increased involvement in student media and engagement across disciplines at the university. He has been a leader in the university’s push to reform general education, helping to implement the university’s “Ideal Graduate” initiative and creating general education “Trails” culminating in certificates – making general courses more useful and impactful to students. He is passionate about mentoring both students and faculty, bringing an even mix of academic rigor and “rubber hits the road” professional experience. He is also passionate about sports and is a leader in connecting faculty and students from various universities to improve sports media and journalism experiences. His career in education has taken him to large, medium and small JMC schools and he believes in collaborative effort to achieve the lofty goals our profession demands.
